+On Unix systems, `fork` is a rather simple system call. Our implementation in
+[[glibc]] is / needs to be rather bulky. TODO: elaborate.

+This affects performance when new processes are continuously being spawned from
+the shell, for example.

+Alternatives: use `posix_spawn`. Others?
