## <a name="The_Real_Hurd"> The Real Hurd </a>

This portion of our site is for anything SPECIFICALLY related to **_the Hurd_**, the most important component of a complete [[GNU/WebHome]] operating system. Together with [[Mach/WebHome]] the Hurd still intends to replace other kernels as Linux is doing today. Hurd development preceded the initial [Linux kernel](http://kernel.org) but has not advanced as quickly.

Much of the information previously here now logically falls under the new [[Distrib/WebHome]], [[Mach/WebHome]] and [[GNU/WebHome]] TWiki webs. We hope this will help clarify the different aspects of the GNU/Hurd efforts for new users. For an introduction to this site, see <http://hurd.gnufans.org>.
